Biblical Road to Heaven Have you ever wondered if you were good enough to make heaven? Have you done enough good works to compensate for the bad things you had done? How many good works do you really have to do to make up for your sins? These are great questions that are worth taking the time to answer. On this page we will use the Bible to answer these questions. People spend a lot of time and effort to secure themselves for retirement and the golden years of life. These are important decisions and worth the time and investment. But how much more important is the time we will have for all eternity? The Bible says. “What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? (Mark 8:36-37) “Just as a man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; (Hebrews 9:27-28) Are we good enough to make heaven? Evangelists all over the world have met people who say that they don’t need Jesus because they are relatively a good person. But what the person does not understand is that the Bible teaches we are all sinners. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) It also says that, “There is not one righteous, not even one”. (Romans 3:10) The Bible goes further on to say that, “all our righteous acts are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6) Good works are a good thing, but the Bible makes it very clear that “unless you repent, you too will all perish” (Luke 13:3) The Bible leaves us all guilty of sin. It clearly teaches we are not good enough to make heaven our eternal place of residence. The Good News “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish”. (John 3:16) The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ came into the world and died on a cross at Calvary for our sins. No amount of good works can save you. Except the work the Lord Jesus Christ did for you on the cross. Jesus Christ prepared the way for us. It is all about him and what he did. Our part is to come to him and repent and call upon the Lord and ask for forgiveness. “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9) This verse should not be taken out of context. We are not saying that we simply make a confession, and to have an intellectual belief of Jesus Christ is enough. Notice the verse says “in your heart” You see if it is a heart belief it will bring forth fruit of repentance. Repent means to walk away from our sin, to stop sinning. The Bible says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) The work is already done. He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) The Bible is clear that God longs for all to come to repentance. “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9) If you would like to make heaven your eternal place of residence you must repent and trust in Jesus and obey the Gospel. God will forgive your sins. If you have difficulty believing this just go to our testimony page and read what the Lord has done for many who were steeped in sin. Let God build your faith. Come to Jesus today with a repentant humble heart and he will show you grace. “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6) “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me. (Revelation 3:20) God loves you so much. He went through so much pain at Calvary just for you. For it is written, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13) |
